Words, Pictures, Meaning
Connections
Words are pictures.
Meaning is inferred.
Sounds, shapes, colors, and/or lack of, conjur up ideas and imagery in our head.
Words like pictures, control lives and free minds.
Like tarot cards, tea leaves or any other stimulant of conscious thought, words connect imagination.
Thoughts link.
Names describe, associate.
I'm open to all kinds of photography, but 'Humon Photography' is primarily about imagery significant to every day people.
More art than journalism.
More intimate and commercial than industrial.
ph is an abbreviation for 'Photography Humon', reverse of 'Humon Photography' because i like imagery that causes one to wonder, to think...
about whatever the symbols bring to light in one's own mind.
I encourage turning words about, splitting into components, consider from other perspectives,
consider how characters fit, add.
In the world of chemistry, 'pH'is the symbol for acidity; an analogy that i like, when thinking about the visceral to sublime effect of an image:
How base or how acid is it?
(The notation "pH" stands for "power of hydrogen.
Like ph pictures, pH is not an absolute scale.)
Acid Test
A sense of order is important to people.
Names relate.
Pictures, whether photographs or glyphs, help us perceive order, help us re·member.
Printed words like printed images, are just pigment arranged in patterns.
How one vibrates from the arrangement, says as much about them, as it does about the image.
(When you put on a glove, does your hand slide inside the glove, or does the glove slide over your hand?)
It's all a matter of perspective, relative to one's nature, nurture, and ability to see beyond genetic programming.
In Western culture, there's a tendency to rate things from 1 to 10.
The pH scale runs from 1 to 14 (7 being neutral, 1 extremely acid and 14 extremely basic).
You're welcome to use that range when commenting on my work.
Meta Images This is getting beyond usual photo site content, but getting beyond is a key interest of this photographer... one of the things that i try to convey.
"Meta" refers to 'other' or 'beyond'.
Hence, 'meta·physics' is beyond physics... the realm that is not understood pragmatically.
In the world of digital photography, 'meta data' is information that goes along with a picture that is beyond the photo content.
'Meta Data' is what i endeavor to deliver along with pictures.
Imagine if you will, walking in the dark, unexpectedly, a flash of light reveals something colied nearby.
If it's rope and you take it for a snake, that is a mis·take.
One of this photographer's goals is to 'take' pictures that help people see in manifest ways.
Pictures Are Like Poetry
To make sense out of what appears to be random, is one of life's challenges.
Offered here, is a Haiku corollary, as a fun exercise to visitors who have made it this far.
You are invited, each time you view this page, to enter one word, toward a universal poem; to create a cross cultural picture together, a humon picture, from which each pers·on can draw their own inference.
In accord with Haiku phrasing, please input a word with 2, 3, 4, 5, or 7 syllables.
(Words with 1, 6, or more than 7 syllables will not be used).
